Arise, Lazarus

December 1, 2012 by PJ. Garner

“Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little longer.”
(André A. Jackson )

Our days in these flesh bodies are numbered by design.  As they pass, we can choose to live each moment to its fullest or we can fritter them away in mindless pursuit of meaningless things, all of which we would trade for one more when on our deathbed.

Quiet Joy

October 6, 2012 by PJ. Garner

“Medicine is a science of uncertainty and an art of probability.”
(William Osler)

We took Joy to the vet again this past week for an ultrasound and, taking advantage of her being sedated, also a lateral x-ray.  The result?  The usual good news and not-so-good news.  [Read more…]

A Very Little Joy

October 1, 2012 by PJ. Garner

“A day of worry is more exhausting than a week of work.”
(John Lubbock)

Waiting For Joy

September 29, 2012 by PJ. Garner

Heeding Nature’s call, it is the time of the year for groundhogs to hunker down in their burrows to begin hibernation so there is nothing unusual about Joy going off her feed and spending even more time than usual snoozing in her self-made indoor burrow of old cat condo and towels and blankets.  While she will not truly hibernate in captivity, she will lean heavily towards torpor as the days continue to grow shorter; rousing at regular intervals to take a short walkabout and perhaps eat a few bites. Tiny Poxer

September 15, 2012 by PJ. Garner

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible;
and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
(Francis of Assisi)

He was never supposed to live.  And yet here he was three years later; a quiet, rather standoffish little fox squirrel; his coat still bearing a few white scars from his long, fierce baby battle with squirrel fibroma, aka “squirrel pox”; his slightly blunted profile giving him a rather odd look when combined with partially blind eyes and one missing upper incisor.
